DENVER — U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Michael A. Loh, director, Air National Guard, bid farewell to his distinguished career with a symbolic final flight, known as the 'Fini Flight', aboard an F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft at Buckley Space Force Base, Aurora, Colorado, June 7, 2024.

Symbolizing the culmination of his service, the final flight and following retirement ceremony were hosted by the Colorado National Guard’s 140th Wing, which is where Loh called home for much of his military career.

“For almost 25 years I was able to be an Air Force fighter pilot, a true privilege,” Loh said in his farewell speech. “It was great serving the fifth largest Air Force in the world - the Air National Guard,” he added.

Loh's career spans decades, beginning with his graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1984. After serving seven years on active duty as an F-16 instructor pilot, he transitioned to the CONG in 1991.

Throughout his tenure, he held various command, staff and supervisory positions, including group commander, Air Force assistant to the commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command, and Assistant Adjutant General of Colorado for Air and Space.

Loh’s connection to the Colorado National Guard culminated with service as the state’s adjutant general from April 2017 to July 2020.

Lt. Gen. Loh's legacy is one of unwavering dedication, leadership, sacrifice and service," remarked Col. Jeremiah Tucker, commander, 140th Wing, CONG. "His impact extends far beyond his tenure as director, leaving an indelible mark on all those who have had the privilege of serving alongside him," he said.

In his role as the director of the Air National Guard, Loh was responsible for overseeing policies, plans and programs affecting more than 108,400 Air National Guard Airmen and civilians across 90 wings through the 54 states, territories and the District of Columbia.

“Over the past four years, Mike has served as the Director of the Air National Guard—and I couldn’t have had a better advisor and leader at my side,” remarked U.S. Army Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, chief, National Guard Bureau. “He was a ferocious advocate for our National Guard Airmen, and our organization is better for his experience, vision, and direction,” he said.

With a career spanning over four decades, Loh has accumulated extensive knowledge in piloting various aircraft. As a command pilot, he has amassed over 3,200 flight hours, including more than 120 combat hours. His flight log boasts a diverse array of aircraft, including the T-37, T-38, AT-38, and F-16A/B/C/D, illustrating his versatility and expertise in the skies.

Loh's extensive experience includes deployments to both the Pacific and Central Command regions, where he commanded combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Provide Comfort II.

As Loh embarks on the next chapter of his journey, his legacy of service and commitment to excellence will continue to inspire generations of Airmen.

“Go Guard!” Loh exclaimed; “I leave with great optimism for our future, and comfort knowing the next generations will continue making it better.”
